A variety of clones grown on vineyards between 2,000 and 3,000 feet are used to make up our Barbera, creating a perfect representation of El Dorado county Barbera. Mouth-wateringly aromatic, this wine jumps out of the glass with luscious red fruit aromas. Soft and full on the palate, this wine is a pleasure to drink on its own, but its inherent acidity also makes it a perfect accompaniment to most dishes.

This special bottling of 2017 Barbera was blended to highlight the more structured side of Barbera. Often considered a soft and inviting wine, Barbera is also historically known for it's bracing acidity, and deep, dark color, especially in it's native Piedmont, Italy. This blend was made to reflect that history, including a slightly larger of cooler climate vineyard lots. The extra age on this wine helped soften it to it's current state of elegance.

Obscure in California and long steeped in uncertain origins, Charbono is at once a mystery and a cult favorite. Originally from the Savoie region of France, but nearly extinct in Europe, Charbono has made its way to small pockets around the world; it is estimated that there are only around 100 acres planted in California. Inky in color, and characterized by deep, rich tannins, this grape produces rustic wines imbued with savory, earthy notes. Perfumed floral and herbal notes add an elegance to the nose.

As is often the case with this particular variety, Merlot may be the dark horse of Boeger Winery. The Merlot plantings are on our Estate vineyards, deliver an unassumingly delicious wine year in and year out, while a small amount of fruit from higher elevation vineyards contributes additional structure and color. The nose offers rich, savory notes that are counterpointed by red fruit aromas, while the palate is full and inviting, with Merlot’s typically soft, rich tannins.

Named after the neighboring Pino Grande wood mill, this vineyard sits in a small bowl at an elevation of 2,900 feet. In this relatively cool site, Pinot Noir can thrive in a region usually associated with warmer varieties. The vineyard is planted on decomposed granitic soils with five different clones of Pinot Noir. Fermentation is conducted at relatively low temperatures in stainless steel tanks following an extended cold soak to maximize aromatic complexity. Following a year of barrel aging, the final blend is meticulously selected from individual barrels to produce the best possible blend.

This Pinot Gris from vineyards at 2,800 feet elevation was whole-cluster pressed to minimize bitterness and astringency from the not-quite-white, not-quite-red clusters. Fermentation was conducted in stainless steel at low temperatures to preserve character and aromatics. The end result is a soft, pleasing wine with a nice balance of richness, freshness and minerality on the palate.

Luscious and full, this Primitivo fills the glass with rich, fruity aromas. The fruit-forward aromas follow through on the palate, where they are accentuated with slight peppery notes. The roundness of the palate is held together with Primitivo’s characteristic acidity.

The aromatics and acidity of Sauvignon Blanc are balanced by the addition of Sémillon, its traditional Bordeaux blending partner, which gives body and weight to the blend. Flora, a native California cross of Gewürztraminer and Sémillon, is added to further increase aromatic complexity. Average vine age is 40 years old.

Our El Dorado Zinfandel comes from two distinct parcels of our Estate vineyards. The older Fossati block is planted with our “Old Clone” Zinfandel variety, which was grafted with cuttings taken from vines found on the property when it was purchased in 1972. Planted by the family of the original property settlers, these vines likely dated back to the late 19th century, and always contribute a uniquely earthy, chocolatey aroma. The newer estate plots are planted with more recent clonal selections that provide a more overtly fruit-forward aroma of ripe red fruits. These distinct lots are blended together to yield a Zin with an alluring, red-fruit dominant aroma.

Zinfandel has long been a part of Boeger winemaking tradition, with turn of the century plantings existing on the property when it was originally purchased by the Boeger family. This blend celebrates our history with Zinfandel by blending wines from vineyards that we typically keep separate; specific barrel lots from each vineyard are selected that complement each other well, and are brought together in this special bottling so that their unique attributes combine to reflect the best of each vineyard.

Aroma of Honeysuckle, vanilla, meyer lemon, butterscotch, Bartlett pear and nuts. Soft on the palate with light viscosity, soft and smooth finish.

This Pinot Noir is made in the “Blanc de Noirs” style, allowing a white wine to be made from a red grape. Picked early to keep a lively acidity, entire clusters are loaded directly into the press and very gently pressed to avoid any color pickup from the skins. Aging on the lees in both oak barrels and a stainless steel tank allows the wine to pick up body and mouthfeel, which is counterbalanced by the natural acidity, allowing for a crisp, refreshing finish.

White Riesling is a synonym for Johannisberg Riesling, and the names are interchangeable.  We choose to use the name “White Riesling” whenever we make the Riesling in a dry style, since most people equate Johannisberg Riesling with sweet or dessert style white wines.

Lucky Boy, named after a local gold rush mine, is made from a block of vines planted on the estate in the 1870's by the homesteading family. It is a field blend that was popular among Italian immigrants of the day: Zinfandel (California heritage vines), Mission and a little Muscat to create a red wine that is light, fresh and slightly sweet. Try this old school favorite with cheese or cigars!

Rebelde means "rebel" in Spanish. This wine is a field blend of the estate's white wine vines that have refused their red wine grafts over the years. Sometimes, a vine just won't be converted! There are several varieties in this blend painstakingly located and hand harvested including Muscat, Semillon, Reisling, Flora and French Colombard.

Taste notes: Coconut, dried pineapple, honeydew, pear, honeysuckle. Vibrant and sweet with good acidity and a lingering finish.
